My guiding beliefs and philosophy
I believe that stories are the threads that weave us all together, and that everyone has a story within them to tell, whether they believe it or not. Stories help us move from head to heart. They have outlasted every other form of message in history.
I believe that people today are craving more rooting and belonging. Our modern society, so good at cranking out splendid technology, has widened our contacts exponentially. But it seems to me that there is a longing to connect more deeply with the people who matter, the communities around us, and the principles we value.
I believe that there’s a growing movement toward relevance and authenticity. I think it’s starting with our kids and it’s powerful.
I believe that as the speed of life accelerates, the people who will manage best are those who willing to work with (vs. against) inevitable change. (Easier to say than to do.) Openness, curiosity, and presence are all powerful tools.
Over the past 25 years, I’ve spent my career helping people navigate the waters of change, both on their own and in community. Celebrancy is the culmination of my prior work. It’s what I have been truly called to do.
My favourite quote:
“There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself.
It is the only true guide you will ever have.
And if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days at the ends of strings that someone else pulls.”
Howard Thurman (1900-1981)
