My approach

When we work together, I’ll use a four-step process designed to get at the heart of what’s important to you:

Step 1: Exploring

First, we explore…who you are, where you are going, what you want. We can meet somewhere that’s comfortable for you, or we can talk over the phone. This is a no-cost, no obligation step. I include this in the exploring phase, because it’s really important to determine if we have a working fit. We’ll both walk away and make that decision.

If we decide there’s a fit, I’ll create a custom quote. Before we start, you’ll know exactly what you’re getting, and how much it will cost.

Step 2: Discovery

Once we decide to work together, we go diving for the jewels that will shine on your day. This may involve personal interviews and information gathering, some parts in person and other parts over the phone. I’ll also e-mail you questions for your thoughtful consideration.

You’ll find that I will ask questions you may not have even considered. Depending upon the occasion, I may ask to speak to other people as well. The process not only gives me what I need to begin designing your ceremony, it often provides tremendous clarity for you, about what you want for yourself.

Sound like a lot of work? Yes, it is. But because the answers are inside you, it’s fairly simple. Not to fear: I have yet to have a client tell me that this phase wasn’t an enlightening process.

They’ve used other words too: empowering, stimulating…and even enjoyable!

Step 3: Creating

This is where your ceremony takes shape. First, I’ll create a draft outline for your approval. Think of it as a meta-view, based on a theme that was uncovered though our discovery work.

Once you’re happy with that the outline, I’ll begin to craft the script ceremony. Woven into the script will be rituals, music, readings and/or stories that harmonize and work for you. You may have ideas already, or I may suggest.

We’ll then work collaboratively (me writing, you providing edits and comments) to finalize your ceremony.  Think of this as fittings to make sure that your are both comfortable and happy with the final product…that it feels and looks just like you.

We’ll also plan ahead for the delivery, rehearsing if required so there are no surprises. I’ll also give you a final script that shows when and where the details will unfold. Your readers and helpers will get a copy, too.

Step 4: Your day

It’s your big day! If you’ve hired me to be there, I’ll show up early. I’ll help make sure everyone is ready. I’ll lead your ceremony with authenticity, warmth and grace. Once it’s over, I’ll provide you with a lovely printed keepsake version.

Most people expect delivery as part of my service. But in some situations, the perfect ceremony is smaller, private but still significant. We’ll work in a similar manner to the above, and instead of delivery, we’ll focus on rehearsal so your chosen ceremony leader can feel prepared and confident.
