Public Dedications

What’s tangible often serves to remind us of the contributions that people have gifted to their community. A neighbourhood bench becomes a place to sit and remember. A memorial tree symbolizes the growth of a vision. A dedicated building houses a legacy. Beautification projects remind us of a commitment to a cherished place.

Dedications or memorializations in public places often go without ceremony. City staff do the work and you get a little plaque. When there is a ceremony, often people struggle to find a fitting way to ‘connect the dots’ between the person or organization and the commemoration: “ok, we’re here now. Now what do we do, beyond giving a speech?”

There is another way. A public ceremony can be rich with stories, memories, and shared participation. It’s a wonderful way to imprint the personality of the person/s you want to honour onto the tangible, to link them together. Ask me how.
